Nirvana story

Yesterday, we reported that Courtney Love, former wife of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, was suing Activision for the appearance of the musician in Guitar Hero 5.

But there have been some radical new developments today, with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Cobain’s Nirvana bandmates, adding to Love’s accusations.

In a joint statement, the pair stated:

We want people to know that we are dismayed and very disappointed in the way a facsimile of Kurt is used in the Guitar Hero game.

While we were aware of Kurt’s image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn’t know players have the ability to unlock the character. This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in “re-locking” Kurt’s character so that this won’t continue in the future.

It’s hard to watch an image of Kurt pantomiming other artists’ music alongside cartoon characters.

With the game being released in Europe today, expect this one to run, folks.

ToysRUs

Back in March, Toys R Us were testing a trade-in program with games, and now it has been proved successful as the retailer is launching the service now to any packaged game.

Unlike its competitors, the Toys R Us program accepts any game in its original packaging, meaning you can trade in an Atari 2600 or Dreamcast game for store or online credit.

This could be a real boost for gamers, as eBay is really the only recognisable place where you can take your old consoles and games for store credit, with the exception of independent game stores.

Getting that rare game for the SNES could just get that little bit easier now…

Nirvana story

A few weeks ago, Activision announced that former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain would appear in Guitar Hero 5, which is on sale tomorrow (11/09/09).

But Courtney Love, Cobain’s former wife and owner of a lot of Cobain’s material, has posted several angry rants on Twitter today, one of which included:

For the record this Guitar Hero sh*t is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction.

The extent of the rant has yet to be explained, but a monetary issue is most likely the problem. Although, it is Courtney Love, so we could be here until Guitar Hero 6 guessing what the problem could be.

ghostbusters

The release of the eagerly anticipated game Ghostbusters has now been delayed to November 6th, publisher Atari have said.

The third-person shooter was due to be released on the 360, PC, Wii and DS for October 23rd, but European fans of the game will need to wait further whilst their American compatriots have had the game for over 3 months now.

The PSP version is due for a 30th October release.

Ghostbusters is already available to Euro gamers on PS3 and PS2, after Sony bought the rights to have a timed exclusive. The time between releases doesn’t mean changes have been made, but only European gamers have to wait due to absurd publishing deals.

EA swear that Brutal Legend is going to rock

In game filters can satisfy the more easily offended among us, as we can wield a chainsaw through a locust and not see a speck of blood.

In the upcoming game Brutal Legend, it will give you the option of whether you not only want to see gore flying around, but whether your character is metal enough to say the word “f***”.

In the game your character shouts, “I don’t know how many times I’ve told you not to crawl around up there! I don’t know what the f-…”, at which point you’ll get the chance to be a metal head and unleash verbal fury, or be content with “gosh” and “jings”.

This is just one of the many slick features in the upcoming open world game.
