Aliens vs Predator banned in Australia

December 4, 2009 by Ivan Cronyn

AVP joins a long list of games that the Australian government doesn’t allow it’s citizens to play. The FPS has been refused certification for “first-person perspective, close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, mouth, throat, or eyes”.

SEGA is currently investigating all options, including a possible appeal. Releasing a “censored” version for Australia looks unlikely, as SEGA has already opted not to go that route in Germany, where the game has also been censored.

Aliens vs. Predator is due for release in countries other than Germany and Australia in February, on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
