Wii Fit doesn’t make you fit
November 11, 2009 by Ivan Cronyn

In shock news, it turns out that wobbling around on a balance board doesn’t make you fit.
The American Council for exercise has released a report on Wii Fit, based on research by the University of Wisconsin. It turns out that Wii Fit’s boxing, for example, burns only 1/3 the calories of actual boxing, while the other four most intensive modes – Free Island Run, Super Hula Hoop, Advanced Step, and Free Step – only burned between 100 and 160 calories every 30 minutes of exercise.
The report also found that while Wii Fit burns more calories than a regular game, Wii Sports actually burns more.

I am surprised to hear that Wii Sports burns more than Wii Fit, considering the whole premise behind Wii Fit.
And as a side note – Imagine how great it would’ve been to be a researcher at the University of Wisconsin when the research into this was announced? “For the next few months we shall be doing nothing but gaming! FOR SCIENCE!”
