The next game in the Call Of Duty series is being developed by Treyarch and is expected to be set in Vietnam

CVG today “confirmed” that Call of Duty 7 will be released in November 2010. They also “confirmed” the rumour that the game will be set during the Vietnam war.

CVG acquired this information from a “senior UK trade source”, who confirmed that the Call of Duty series will continue the trend of releasing a game every holiday season.

It had long been rumoured that Treyarch would follow in the footsteps of Infinity Ward in taking the departure from the exhausted World War 2 setting, and the most obvious step to take would be to go to the controversial Vietnam War fought in the 1960’s.

The game is said to take influence from classic movies such as “Apocalypse Now” and “Platoon”. Activision has yet to make a comment on this.

Bobby Kotick

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently exercised 2 million stock options that had vested in 2000, making him over $20 million. The recent successful release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has seen Activision exceed analyst expectations, with a resulting higher stock price.

No wonder he’s smiling.

Daily Star Outs “Video-Game Pervs”

MW2

The paper that boldly claims it’s simply the best 7 days a week has this week found another avenue down which to attack that which they do not understand in their story entitled “Goggles on for a Pervy Night Out…”

In this piece they say

GEEKY computer game fans are set to become an army of ogling pervs thanks to a giveaway of night-vision goggles with an edition of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Apparently the proof that “joypad junkies are rubbing their hands in anticipation at stealth dogging” are based on quotes from gaming forums which have lead to the Prestige Edition of the game being dubbed Modern Warfare 2: Peeping Tom Edition! (by the paper only as far as my research shows)

They also inform us that “HMVs entire stock of this £170 edition has already been snapped up by gaming nuts”

As well as the release of Modern Warfare 2, I personally cannot wait for the release of Newspaper Editor: Irony-Free edition which is due to be released around the same time.

Modern Warfare 2 is released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 10 and is available for pre-order at all good retailers and dimly lit car-parks.

Activision didn’t want Modern Warfare

Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella has revealed that Activision didn’t want Modern Warfare, and didn’t want the developer working on a console game. In an interview with Official Playstation magazine, Zampella said:

With Call of Duty 2, we were dead set against it being World War 2, but Activision really wanted it, the compromise sort of being that we’d get some dev kits for consoles in exchange for doing a World War 2 game. We always wanted to be on consoles and Activision saw us as more of a PC developer.

And something I’ll add to that, Activision also did not want Modern Warfare. They thought working on a modern game was risky and, ‘oh my god you can’t do that, it’s crazy!’ They were doing market research to show us we were wrong the whole time.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare went on to sell over 14 million copies. Modern Warfare 2 is due for world-wide release on 10 November 2009.

As was previously reported here, a special Modern Warfare 2 brand of Monster Energy drink revealed that DLC for Modern Warfare 2 was planned to be released in spring 2010. However Infinity Ward responded to this by saying that no Modern Warfare 2 DLC is in development and will not be until after the game’s release.

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling said on the Infinity Ward forums, “I think you might be confused by that. We haven’t even begun thinking about what our DLC will be, let alone finish any. No DLC will begin development until the entire game is finished and certified.” Take that Monster Energy!

Modern Warfare 2 is released 10th November and is available to pre-order now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.

A special Modern Warfare 2 brand of Monster Energy drink has revealed the date for one of the downloadable map packs for Modern Warfare 2. The promotional pack reads that you can win: “5,000 MW2 Map Pack codes – planned release spring 2010″. It is not known if this will be the first map pack or if it will be one of the timed Xbox 360 exclusive map packs.

Monster Energy will also be giving you the chance to win 100 Modern Warfare 2 games for Xbox 360 or PS3, 10,000 Modern Warfare 2 dashboard themes for Xbox 360 or PS3 and free cans of Monster Energy. A message on the side of the Modern Warfare 2 Monster Energy drink can reads: “Creator Infinity Ward hooked us up with an advanced copy of MW2 and we were so stoked on the game we put it on our can.” Really? I find that a bit hard to believe…

Modern Warfare 2 is released 10th November and is available to pre-order now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.

No Modern Warfare 2 demo before launch

There will be no Modern Warfare 2 demo before its release on 10th November, Infinity Ward has said. As more and more developers are doing these days, Infinity Ward made this announcement via their Twitter page. Infinity Ward tweeted: “No plan for a Demo before launch. The entire team is focused on polish all the way up to ship of the full game.” However this doesn’t rule out a post-launch Demo as we have seen with Call of Duty: World at War. This news comes after last month’s news that there are no plans for a public multiplayer beta either. But why does this matter, you’re all going to buy the game on launch day anyway, aren’t you?

Modern Warfare 2 is released 10th November and is available to pre-order now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.

New Modern Warfare 2 Custom Killstreak Details

In an interview with PSM3 Magazine, Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward gave some more details on the new custom killstreaks in Modern Warfare 2.

Bowling had this to say:

“You can have a three killstreak or a fifteen killstreak if you want, or something like the AC-130 [firing down in black and white from an airborne gunship] is one of the highest killstreaks you can select… You take control of that and can fire down for thirty seconds, blow guys up”

Basically this means that people who are generally only getting a handful of kills in a game can make a killstreak of as low as three kills and get a small reward, whereas the COD veterans can set high killstreaks and reap the rewards by wreaking further havoc when they eventually do die.

Modern Warfare 2 is released November 10th.

NYC Gamer busted stealing WiFi at Library while playing Halo

Can you imagine the audacity of this NYC gamer who decided it would be a great idea to setup an Xbox 360 in a public library to play Halo 3, Call of Duty and Quake.  Now I don’t know how he thought he could conceal his activities by placing a copy of the New York Times over his hands and control pad, when his screen was in full view of everyone, not to mention the Turtle Beach headset he was using to bark orders at his Internet Buddies.  It took him around 20 minutes to set the box up and apparently 2 min to get kicked out.  Now if only this guy killed himself while doing this he would probably win a Darwin Award instead he got himself a ban from the Library.

Thanks, Kotaku.
