Some new Fallout: New Vegas screenshots were released by Bethesda today, and we’ve got the full gallery below.

The game uses the same engine as Fallout 3, hence the similar look, although apparently the game will have more varied plant life.

I’ve currently logged about 105 hours in Fallout 3, and that’s with the story not yet completed and only the Operation Anchorage DLC done and dusted (I also have Broken Steel). That’s a lot of game for the £30 I paid for it, and I looks like we’re going to get a pretty good deal again as Fallout: New Vegas promises to be bigger.

Speaking with USA Today Bethesda’s Pete Hines believes you’ll sink hundreds of hours into the game, so he’s just one guy to blame for your sudden lack of a social life.

“[The game] has a brand new, fresh experience that has a familiar feel of Fallout, but otherwise it’s an entirely new game and a new look, with Joshua trees and tumbleweeds and blue skies.

“Vegas is up and running. It is not a ghost town. It still exists and thrives. There are casinos, and you can go down onto the Strip. It will have a very different feel from that standpoint.

“It is a massive game world that will take you hundreds of hours to explore every nook and cranny.”

The game will compare in size to the Capital Wasteland from Fallout 3, but any characters from your beloved wasteland won’t be appearing. Instead you’ll hear about the events of Fallout 3 through it’s own “self-contained story”, which means that players new to the series will get a refresher on what’s happened in the world of Fallout so far.

Magazine scans featuring screenshots and new information about Fallout: New Vegas have appeared online.

The scans are from the latest issue of PSM3, adding to what we already know from the PC Gamer scans that our sister site, Xboxer360, posted about a few days ago. Screenshots show the game looks very similar to Fallout 3, but since it’s running on the same engine that’s no real surprise. Some of the new revelations are that there will various warring factions, a command wheel for followers and more varied plant life.

Bethesda has finally confirmed speculation that the follow-up to Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, will be coming this year by slating it in for an autumn release. As the leaves turn brown Bethesda says you’ll be enjoying it on either the 360, PS3 or PC.

There was also a teaser trailer released, which you can view here. The trailer certainly makes it look like ‘New Vegas’ (assuming that’s the city it shows) is more of a proper city than anything found in the Capital Wasteland, which should make for a nice change of scenery.

We don’t know anything else about the game, which will apparently utilise the Fallout 3 engine, but the game is set to “be featured in magazine cover stories around the world in the month of February” (as I said in January). Look out for more details here as soon as they come in.

We’ve certainly heard about Fallout: New Vegas, but we’ve yet to see anything or hear any concrete details. However, that may be about to change as the next issue of OXM UK (Official Xbox Magazine) will have the ‘world exclusive’ reveal on the game.

Copies of the latest issue have been sent out to subscribers, so The Lost Gamer got hold of a coy and posted a scan of what’s coming up in next months issue. Sure enough Fallout: New Vegas was the main highlight, with the editor Jon Hicks later confirming it to VG247. OXM have now confirmed the scan, posting a much better quality image, but you’ll have to wait until 11th February to hear more about the game.

Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. The release date is currently TBA.
