According to MetaCritic, the best console for quality games in 2009 was the PS3

Metacritic, the renowned website that aggregates review scores from various sources, recently announced their top games and consoles based on various stats and figures.

In terms of consoles, the Wii came in last place with only 28% of their overwhelming 362 games (almost one every day) with an average rating of 75 or higher. It was then followed by the two handhelds in the Nintendo DS and PSP, with the DS around 2.5 times as many games as the PSP in 2009. Next was the Xbox 360 with a median metascore of 70, followed by the PC with a median of 72.5. I know what you’re thinking: “He missed out the PS3 down there with the Wii and DS, right?”. Well no actually, shockingly enough, according to metacritic, the top format for quality games in 2009 was in fact the PS3. The top rated game of 2009 was also on the PS3, in the form of the brilliant Uncharted 2.

Well I doubt anybody expected that, but metacritic is usually a very reliable source for finding out how good games are, given the fact that they take averages from many reliable sources. So well done to Sony I guess.

The 24kt Gold PS3 console from www.computer-choppers.com

Looking for a PS3 for Christmas? I’m sure you’ve heard about the price-drop, and the new, cheaper Slim model. Well forget all that, head over to www.computer-choppers.com and you can pick up a 24 karat gold PS3 for just $4999.

Computer Choppers who have previously done gold-dipped iPhones, Blackberrys amongst other products have recently unveiled the latest in their golden line-up. It comes with 2 gold controllers and one year’s full coverage warranty.

In all seriousness, it is a very nice looking finish, and would certainly get you some serious street/geek cred. There’s only a handful of them, so if you are serious about getting one then you had better act fast. They have also announced that a limited edition (even more so) jewelled model will be available soon.

So if you’re looking for a PS3 this holiday season (and are rolling in cash) then you know where to go.

Thanks to Kotaku for posting the announcement.

Sony has launched a mobile phone that is compatible with the PS3. The Aino handset from Sony Ericsson comes with RemotePlay functionality, allowing users to access and control their PS3 media content from the phone, via the Internet or a home network. The touch-screen emulates a PS3 controller, allowing users to turn the PS3 on and off, browse the XMB interface, sign in to the PS3 network and send messages, shop on the PS3 store, and watch and record live television using PlayTV.

“Media Home and Remote Play with PlayStation 3 are key steps in broadening the entertainment experiences users can enjoy on their Sony Ericsson phone and gives a taste of our vision of the future,” said Alexandre Cardon, Sony Ericsson’s marketing business manager.

You’d never believe it could happen to an action hero but Nathan Drake has experienced the shame of early arrival today with PSN users that have pre-ordered the game posting videos of themselves playing the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo on Youtube.

Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells even posted this link to someone streaming their games live !

The demo itself is a good one too with Naughty Dog saying that they wanted to put as much of the finalized multiplayer experience into a “reasonably sized file,” This totals 1.5 GB and includes 4 maps, 4 competitive modes, 2 co-op modes, cinema mode, the chance to create custom games, access to new skins and 80% of the booster skills that will be in the full version.

Uncharted 2 is released exclusively on Playstation 3 on October 16
